Environmental Solutions Asia gets ISCC PLUS certified and secures a supply agreement with Shell for plastic chemical recycling operations

Environmental Solutions (Asia) Pte. Ltd., “ESA”, announced on 23 Nov 2021 that they have partnered up with Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte.) Ltd., “Shell”, to be an off-taker for ESA’s circular pyrolysis oil generated from their newest plastic waste chemical recycling operations. This follows ESA’s announcement made a month earlier about their plastic chemical recycling facility receiving an International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification.
This collaboration will see Shell using circular pyrolysis oil to manufacture new plastics, achieving circularity of plastics by transforming waste into virgin material. The chemical recycling of plastics, also known as plastic pyrolysis, allows ESA to target contaminated and mixed plastics that are typically incinerated in Singapore. With only 4% of plastics being recycled in Singapore, plastic pyrolysis will pave the way towards greater recyclability in line with the country’s move Towards Zero Waste.
ESA’s ISCC PLUS certification serves as an indicator that the company’s operations meet the stringent environmental and social standards set by the third-party verification body. This certification shows the high level of traceability that the company has achieved in collecting and processing plastic waste, contributing to the development of the circular economy. ESA is proud to be the 1st ISCC PLUS certified pyrolysis plant in Singapore, the 2nd in APAC and the 15th globally.
